Ignite Bloomington 5
Please join us on Thursday, May 12th at 6:30p at the Bloomington City Hall Chambers for Ignite Bloomington 5, where the teams who have been playing Taming the Butterfly for the last five days will be presenting their ideas for the long-term future of Bloomington. The event is free and open to you and to the public, so please tell friends about it.
The Back Story
In the week leading up to the start of Taming the Butterfly, 70 people registered to play. 26 attended the opening session, and those 26 (pluse a few more) have been working together collecting game clues from around the city, and using a combination of face-to-face meetings and digital technology to develop ideas to improve the long-term future of Bloomington. They have been doing so with the help of Dorthea Nie, who has found a way to connect with our teamsfrom the the year 2036 through digital media.
Some teams have been using newer digital technologies like Twitter, Foursquare, Basecamp and Dropbox to coordinate and collaborate. Some have been interacting with Bloomingpedia, and the Taming the Butterfly Forums. Most are combining these newer technologies with more traditional means like telephone and face-to-face meetings. Some of the folks in these groups are digital media pros, and many are very new to them. I think it is safe to say that all of us (even the game organizers!) have developed a bit more digital fluency, have forged some new connections, and have started to envision some things that we can do to nudge the future of Bloomington in some positive directions.
We hope to see you on Thursday at 6:30!
